6 days Mt Kilimanjaro – Marangu route

picked from airport overnight in Nairobi

Day 1: leave Nairobi in the morning to Arusha / Moshi for dinner and overnight at our hotel in Arusha.

Day 2: Drive to the National park gate beginning the climbing at Marangu-1860m. Ascending through the tangled tropical rainforests at the waterfalls with picnic lunch t Mandara hut- 2700m. Dinner and overnight at Mandara hut.

Day 3: After breakfast we ascend through rolling alpine meadows, with giant heather trees. Enjoying the flora and views of Mawenzi and Kibo peaks. Packed lunch on the way to Horombo hut – 3720m. Dinner and overnight at Horombo hut.

Day 4: We proceed to ascend after breakfast through the rugged rock, giant ground shell and lobelias landscape on the open Moor, to the alpine desert. Packed lunch on the way to kibo. Dinner and overnight at Kibo hut – 4703m.

Day 5: Early in the morning – 1.00 am, we begin the final ascent through the desert, ice and snow to the summit, Uhuru Peak 5895mVia Gillman’s point 5685m on the crater rim. Then we descend back to Horombo via Kibo. Packed lunch on the way. Dinner and overnight at Horombo hut.

Day 6: After breakfast we descend back to Mandar gate collecting certificates and drive to Arusha. After lunch, leave for Nairobi arriving after 6.30 pm

6 Days Machame Route

Day 1: Drive to Machame village. The climb begins at the end of the tarmac road. Walk through the forest to the Machame hut – 3100 m in about 6 hours.

Day 2: Cross the village and continue along the steep going on to rock ridges and through heather. The route turns west into a river gorge, reaching Shira hut 3658 m.

Day 3: Continue east towards Kibo passing the junction, then east toward the Lava Tower. Shortly after this, you climb down to Barranco hut – 3860m.

Day 4: From Barranco a steep rocky climb, Barranco walls, then ups and downs until you come to  Karanga Valley and then on to Barranfu hut – 4600m.

Day 5: Very early start for the summit, first to Stella Point and then to Uhuru peak 5895 m. there are two main ways to descend on this route – Marangu  or Mwaka. The Mweka hut will take about 6 hours. The route is steep but picturesque. The Marangu route – Uhuru – Kibo – Horombo is the main route. It is easier but can be dusty and busy, it is also longer.
Day 6: Mweka hut to Mweka gate will take about 3 hours. Horombo to Marangu gate will take about 6 hours. Drive to Arusha for hot showers, diner and a warm bed.

8 Days Umbwe Route

Day 1 Nairobi – Arusha
Leave Nairobi for Arusha by shuttle bus arriving in time for lunch. Spend the afternoon at leisure and shopping for the provision needed for the mountain. Dinner and overnight at the hotel.

Day 2: Arusha – Lava caves
After breakfast, transfer to Marangu gate and then to Umbwe village to start to climb. Climb for four hours through the rain forest to camp at the cave 2800m above sea level.

Day 3: Lava Caves- Barranco hut
After breakfast, continue ascending along a sharp ridge, giving a distinct high mountain feeling, then unto the moorland camp and by mid afternoon stay at Barranco Hut, 3900m.

Day 4: Barranco Hut – Arrow glacier
A 4 hr walk past enormous breach wall to camp at the foot of the arrow glacier. A leisure afternoon and evening, acclimatizing at around 4900m and watching the sunset behind Mt. Meru.

Day 5:Arrow glacier – Kilimanjaro crater Rim
Climbing the same steep scrambling up the screes and across the frozen lava on the tottering wall. We camp on the stunning crater rim of Kilimanjaro.

Day 6: Kilimanjaro crater rim – Horombo hut. You trek up the highest point in Africa, Uhuru peak –5685 m descend via Oilman’s point and Kibo hut for dinner and overnight.

Day 7: Horombo – Arusha
After breakfast, descend to the Marangu park gate via Mandara. You will be transferred to Arusha for dinner and overnight.

Day 8: Arusha – Nairobi
After breakfast, leave for Nairobi by morning or afternoon shuttle bus where tour ends.

6 Days Mt. Kilimanjaro (Rongai Route)

Day 1: leave Nairobi in the morning to Arusha / Moshi for dinner and overnight at our hotel in Arusha.
Day 2: Drive to Marangu and then proceed to Rongai / Horombo.
Day 3: Kibo huts and then midnight to the summit.
Day 4: From the summit back to the Horombo.
Day 5: Horombo to Marangu
Day 6: Marangu to Arusha
